Classes and Activities
The TRA is organising all sorts of classes in the Ainsworth Tenants
Hall. It's a beautiful space with windows all around and looking
down over the green. We have got it cleaned up and are about to have it
re-decorated. On this page we have a few of the classes that have recently
started and will be putting on a full timetable shortly.
COURSES FOR ADULTS
at the SHELL Centre, Ainsworth Way
SHAK run courses for local people at their two SHELL centres on Ainsworth Way and use the hall
for a creche to allow parents/guardian to attend. Courses include:
- ESOL classes with creche
- Computer Literacy and Information Technology
- Introduction to using the internet
- Improving maths
- Job hunting with computers
- Individual computer support
These courses are free for people on benefits. It's a wonderful centre and
the staff really friendly. Pop in and see them, and for more detailed info

Digital photography and film making courses at the SHELL Centre
If you'd like to find out how to use a digital camera come along to these fun and informative sessions. Or if you'd like to find out
how to make and edit your own movie the SHELL Centre has another course for you. Courses are free and start now and are suitable for all ages! To find out more call

The Alexandra Resource Centre (The ARC) - for 9-19 year olds
SHAK also runs the ARC which puts on activities throughout term time and in school holidays specially for
young people aged 9-19. Run by qualified and experienced youth workers, the Centre is a safe and welcoming space for young people and everyone
is encouraged to get involved and meet other young people whether they are new to the Centre or have been coming for years. They are open four evenings
a week during term time and for longer periods over the school holidays.
Activities and courses include:
- Space to do homework, arts, play chess, pool and table tennis
- Evening programmes covering Citizenship and Youth Forum
- Music Production, young people are working towards AQA qualifications in Drums, Bass Guitar, Vocal Track and Music Production
- Summer programme of activities including competitions, KICKZ football, off-site trips and more which is currently being organized
- The ARC is currently working with the TRA to plan a big summer fun day.

Somali Cultural Centre
Mother and Toddler Group
Ainsworth Tenants Hall
Every Friday during term time from 10am to 12 noon.
Come and meet other parents with your tots. Lots of toys too.
The group is for Somali parents as it is a targeted service, but if people from the wider community are interested please feel free to drop in as we have
an open door policy. Parents can register for Sure Start and get information on all other local activities through us as well as participate in our drop in
If you are interested in any of the classes below just turn up and speak to the teacher. There are currently some spaces available in all of the classes.
Mondays
Yoga
Venue: The Tenants Hall
Time: 7.30 - 9.00pm
Cost: £6 per class
This class appropriate for all ages and abilities.
This friendly Iyengar yoga class is open to both beginners and experienced yoga practitioners and is suitable to all ages. It will improve your strength,
flexibility and balance and reduce stress. Yoga mats and equipment are provided so just turn up in loose clothes. The class is taught by an experienced and
certified yoga teacher who lives on the estate!

Judo For Kids (aged 5-12)
Every Tuesday and Thursday
The Tenants Hall
5pm-6pm - class for 4 to
7 year olds
6pm-7pm - class for 8 to 12 year olds
Cost: £3 per class
Qualified judo instruction. Come along and meet the instructor. Your child is welcome to try to class out.
Judo For Adults

Cost: £4 per class
For beginners and more experienced. Work in fitness, flexibility and technique. Qualified judo instruction. Come along and meet the instructor.
Wednesdays
Junior Little Ninjas
Every Wednesday
Venue: The Tenants Hall
Time: 4.30pm-5.30/6pm
Cost: £4 per class
Tai-Kwondo class for kids aged 6+.

Table Tennis Club
Every Wednesday
Time: 7.30 - 9.00pm
For all ages and abilities. Bring your neighbours, come alone. It's FREE.
Just drop in.
The club is open to everyone living on the estate from 18 to 80, and beyond. Table tennis is a fun game and suits all abilities so whether you have never played before, or if you are a demon player, come along.
Get fit, have fun, meet your neighbours.

Tai Kwondo

(See Wednesday). This class is for children who have been training for a while as it is solely for preparing for competitions.
